“Because of Katie”
Karen is the author of a memoir, "Because of Katie," the story of her family's journey through the world of pediatric cancer care with her daughter, Katie. After Katie's death at the age of 12 in 2007 from adrenocortical carcinoma, Karen became an advocate for cancer research, founding the Katie Gerstenberger Endowment for Cancer Research and Katie’s Comforters Guild at Seattle Children’s Hospital. She spent years raising awareness and hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity through her writing and public speaking. Her book is available in paperback and Kindle format on Amazon.com.
Karen also created "Word Soup," a writer's workshop for beginners and blocked writers, which she has taught at local public libraries.
